My teaching is informed by the yoga I have studied (Bikram, hatha and yoga therapy from Svasta School with Dr Ganesh Mohan and Atmavikasa Centre for Yogic Sciences with Archarya Hema and Archarya Venkatesh). My teaching is also influenced from my long history of personal physical training and the study of exercise science. I focus on endurance, strength, mobility, core, flexibility, and power, as well as a strong focus on form and precision of movement. My teaching draws on my therapeutic studies in bodywork, meditation, focusing and psychotherapy, which enables me to create a yoga environment that is not only strengthening for the body but also healing for the mind.
Like Te Whare Tapa Wha model (physical, spiritual, mental & emotional, land & roots and family, created by Sir Mason Durie) and kaupapa Māori theory, my yoga teachings support the body, spirit and mind while maintaining constant connection to whenua/papatuanuku (land/mother earth) and family through practicing prayer, gratitude and presence. Classes range from 60-90mins depending on the need and ability of practitioners. I teach in a way that empowers, educates and promotes self-awareness, gifting the practitioner the tools for self-practice. I honour and respect all my teachers that have generously shared their knowledge with me and the yoga gurus of India.
