Parenting and Blended Families

I am passionate about working with the whole family.  As humans we are affected by our environments – social structures & systems and the power and control of the dominant culture (think classism, sexism, racism, homophobia).  We can also be greatly affected by our personal and intergenerational experiences of trauma and that of those close to us.  I am passionate about supporting children and young people facing challenges and aim to support parents to heal themselves so that they can take better care of themselves, their partners, co/stepparents and their children.

I have a particular interest in supporting blended families, stepparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, and people existing in diverse family structures, those that exist outside of the mainstream “nuclear family” model.  I come with lived experience of being a step and biological parent, and all the complexities and challenges that come with this “othering” of the step parent role.  Blended families are rapidly more common yet are still severely underserviced and misunderstood.  There is a depth of wisdom to be gained from people who are in a caring role of children that are not biologically theirs.
